Non-Veg: Chitol Macher Muithha

Ingredients and Quantity (or Amount)

1. Chitol mach (fish) (1 lb.)

2. Potatoes (2 medium sized)

3. Onion paste (1 cup)

4. Garlic paste (2 tablespoons)

5. Ginger paste (2 tablespoons)

6. Coriander powder (1 tablespoon)

7. Chili powder (2 tablespoons)

8. Turmeric (1 teaspoon)

9. Garam masala (1 tablespoon)

10. Ghee (2 teaspoons)

11. Oil (3 tablespoons)

12. Bay leaves (2 pieces)

13. Tomato (2 medium sized)

14. Green chili (2 pieces)

15. Sugar (2 tablespoons)

16. Salt (1 tablespoon)

Method

Cut the back side of chitol mach (fish) and scrape the fish with a spoon, lengthwise. After scraping, most of the bones will remain with the skin. Remove the bones that are still left within the fish. 

Boil the 2 potatoes. Mash one of the potatoes while cut the other into small pieces. 

Take a bowl and mix the mashed potatoes, fish, 1 tablespoon ginger paste, green chilies, turmeric, ½ tablespoon of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of sugar, ½ tablespoon of salt, and let it sit as a dough. 

Boil half a saucepan of water. Make small balls about 1 inch in diameter. 

Heat a pan and add oil and fry the cut-up potatoes till golden brown. Remove the potatoes and fry the fish balls in the same oil. Remove the fried fish balls and keep aside on a separate plate. 

Add ghee in the pan and add bay leaves along with turmeric, chopped up tomatoes, ginger paste, salt and sugar and 2 cups of hot water. 

When it starts to boil, add the fried potatoes, and fish balls into the mix in the pan and let it simmer for a few minutes. Turn heat off and add garam masala to the mix. 

Serve with rice.
