Non-Veg: Shorshe Illish

Why Shorshe Illish?

Illish mach is one of the most tastiest fish that you can get in India. It also has health benefits. It is rich in Omega 3. Illish mach with mustard (shorshe) brings out a flavor that is loved by most Bengalees. I used to cook shorshe illish for my husband and two sons all the time in Kolkata.

Ingredients and Quantity or Amount
1. Illish Mach (Fish) (10 pieces)
2. Red Mustard (4 table spoons)
3. Turmeric Powder (1 tablespoon)
4. Mustard Oil (4 tablespoons)
5. Salt (to taste)
6. Kalo Jeera (1/2 table spoon)
7. Green Chilli (5 pieces)

Method
Blend the red mustard in a blender with water and use sieve to take out red mustard shells.
Marinade the pieces of fish with red mustard paste, salt, green chilli, turmeric powder and 2 tablespoons of mustard oil.

Heat the pan and add oil.  When the oil is hot add kalo jeera. After kalo jeera starts to crackle, add all the fish, pour one cup of water, cover and cook in slow heat for 10 minutes.

Serve with white rice.
